Comb question

I caught 3 swarms last spring.  This is my first and only experience with honey bees. Long story short I fed 2 of the hives all summer and they are alive and appear to be doing well.

My unfed hive died and I opened it up today.  At first I suspected starvation but there is almost a frame’s worth of uncapped honey.  The cluster was at the top of an adjacent frame huddled together on empty comb.  I’m guessing that they got too cold to move over?

I’m curious about eating the honey.  I have attached 2 pictures.

    Thank you for the help.
