TVBA Spring Field Day

TVBA Bee School students get first dibs on our Spring hands-on small group Field Days. Save the dates now so you can join us on April 1 from noon to 4pm and May 20 from noon to 4pm.

April topics will include

Session 1: Noon to 2pm

Session 2: 2pm to 4pm

• Overview of equipment, hive location, and setup, etc.
  
• Obtaining bees; Nucs, packages, and whole hives.
  
• How to move bees from a Nuc to a new hive:
  
•      a.  Where to place the new nuc after bringing it to the apiary
  
•      b.  How to open and transfer frames and place in the new hive.
  
•      c.  What to look for on the frames when doing the transfer.
  
• Feeding in the spring.
  
• Mites in honeybees: mite biology, disease vectoring, evaluating mite load, when and how to treat for mites.
  
• When to add space for the new hive.
